Why did Lord Shiva go to Kedarnath from the Kashi Vishwanath Temple?
History of Kedarnath Dham
The temple of
Kedareshwar Jyotirlinga, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in the country, is located
on the top of Kedar in the Giriraj Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand,
India. This Dham is situated at an altitude of 3581 meters on the banks of the Mandakini
river, this whole area is known as Kedarnath Dham. This place is also known as
one of the Chota Char Dham.
Structure of Kedarnath Dham
This temple is built on a six feet high square platform, the main part of the temple is the pavilion and the circumambulation path around the sanctum sanctorum. Nandi is sitting in the form of a bull vehicle in the outer courtyard, there is no authentic mention of who built the temple.
Lord Shiva departed from Kashi Vishwanath Temple and went to Kedarnath
There are many stories related to Kedarnath Dham and the temple, but it is said that it was founded by Adi Guru Shankaracharya. Apart from this, there are many interesting stories behind the establishment of this Dham, let us know about some of them.
It is believed that when the Pandavas
won the Mahabharata war in the Dwapar period, they were feeling guilty that
they had killed their brothers and relatives. And they got cursed for having
committed "Brahmhatya". He used to be very sad about the many sins he
has committed. Then seeing his distraction, Lord Krishna and the author of the
epic Mahabharata, Saint Ved Vyas told him to worship Shiva and set out in
search of him because he is the only one in this world who can free you from
this distraction and terrible karma. can do. Desperate to get rid of these sins
committed by them, the Pandavas reached Kashi to see Lord Shiva.
But when Bholenath came to know that
the Pandavas were coming to him, he got angry and went towards Kedarnath. The
Pandavas then followed Bholenath to Kedarnath. They started doing penance to
Lord Shiva, but he was angry with them and did not appear before them. Then
Lord Shiva assumed the form of a bull and joined the herd of bulls to escape
from the Pandavas, then Bhima assumed his giant form and stood with his feet on
two mountains. All the animals went under the feet of Bhima, but Lord Shiva was
about to intervene when Bhima caught hold of Bholenath's tail.
Shiva was very pleased to see this
longing of the Pandavas and appeared to them. After the darshan, the Pandavas
got freedom from this sin of their "Brahmahatya". After this, the
Pandavas got the temple of Kedarnath constructed here. The back of the bull is
still worshipped as an idol.
When is the darshan of Kedarnath Baba?
For the darshan of Lord Kedarnath,
this temple opens only for 6 months and remains closed for 6 months. This
temple is opened after Baisakhi and is closed on Padwa {Paruva Tithi} after
Diwali. When the time of 6 months is over, the priests of the temple light a
lamp in this temple. And this lamp keeps on burning for the next 6 months, and
after 6 months when this temple is opened, then this lamp is found burning like
before.
Every year after the completion of 6
months, in May, God's Panchmukhi Doli departs from Gaurikund to Kedarnath Dham
in the morning, and this Kedarnath Baba's Doli is accompanied by fully
decorated instruments, and drums and Baba's Jai Jai car. After that, it goes to
Kedarnath Dham, and after that from the next day, the doors of Kedarnath Dham
are opened for the devotees.
Kedarnath Dham Yatra by Helicopter
This Kedarnath Dham is very revered in Hindu belief, it is the third Dham among the four holy Dhams of Uttarakhand located in Guptkashi. This journey starts from the "City of God" i.e. Haridwar. Devotees who are short of time or are uncomfortable traveling to the mountains can fulfill their darshan by availing of the service of Kedarnath Dham Yatra by Helicopter from Dehradun itself. Dehradun has a Sahastradhara helipad where Comfort My Travels provides its services. Chardham Yatra can be completed in just one day by helicopter from Dehradun. The distance from Dehradun to Kedarnath Dham is about 266 km which takes about three to four hours to cover.
As soon as you reach the holy temple
of Kedarnath by taking a helicopter tour to Kedarnath, you will see the
Mandakini river flowing by the banks of its abode with a gushing sound in your
ears. And on the other side, you will see a huge stone named Bhim Sheela. It is
believed that it got its name Bhima Sheela because Bhima kept that stone so that
this temple would never be distracted from its place in the future. A natural
calamity in 2013 tried to completely disturb the temple, but it was saved by
Bhima Sheela and is still worshiped by the devotees.
